Mission Statement


The Lupus Foundation of America is the nation's leading nonprofit voluntary health organization dedicated to finding the causes of and cure for lupus and providing support and services to all people affected by lupus.

 

We fulfill this mission through our efforts to:

  1. EDUCATE AND INFORM

    To educate and inform people with lupus, their families and friends, the medical community, and the general public by promoting awareness and understanding of lupus and of the social and human costs and burdens imposed by the disease.

    • Develop awareness among the general public of effects of lupus.

    • Improve content and programming of seminars to increase attendance.

    • Promote knowledge of lupus among health professionals.

    • Promote participation in the chapter through giving of time and money.

  2. SUPPORT LUPUS PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES

    To provide support, encouragement, and service to those whose lives have been affected by lupus thereby aiding their healing and welfare.

    • Expand services and participation of the support group system.

    • Provide effective coordination and training for support group facilitators.

    • Develop new methods of support.

    • Improve medical referral system.

  3. PROMOTE RESEARCH TOWARD THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF FINDING A CURE FOR LUPUS

    To support research designed to discover the cause(s) of lupus and improve the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

    • Find new ways to participate in lupus research.

    • Monitor research taking place in our region.
